The M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a field bus standardised at European level for the acquisition, evaluation,
optimisation and control of energy and process data. It was originally developed for recording heat
quantity meters. In the meantime, it has become its own standard (EN13757) and is used to record gas,
water, electricity and heat meters.
The wiring of the M-Bus is done with a simple 2-wire cable. Cable lengths up to 4000m are possible.
The topology is not prescribed, arbitrary mixed forms are possible. The baud rate can be selected from
300 to 9600 baud depending on the cable length, the standard is 2400 baud. Up to 250 slaves can be
operated in one segment, our master supports a maximum of 50.
The M-Bus master can be controlled via the CAN bus or a serial interface.
